Book Club, Round 2: Dalton Trumbo's Johnny Got His Gun

Hello friends and fellow book clubbers, and Happy New Year to you all! If I didn't get a chance to see you over the holidays, then I sure hope they treated you well. Missed you. Kisses, hugs and other such nonesuch.

In book club-related news, we appear to have finished our first selection/discussion, and I happen to think it went pretty well! At least I enjoyed it, and I sure hope you did too. Our inaugural pick was a bit of a tome, however it proved ripe for discussion and at times even for debate, and so it was perfect for our purposes. One thing I've already learned is that I have some wickedly smart friends, and thus I need to step it up a bit on my end. (i.e., perhaps I won't read the majority of this next book in the bathtub with a glass of wine. Clearly, I need to keep my f-a-c-u-l-t-i-e-s intact amongst this crowd.)

Furthermore, the blog format seems to be working better than I thought it would as a tool for discussion, but I agree with Courtney's suggestion that we start to experiment with creating new discussion threads, hopefully making our next discussion easier to follow. But if this intimidates or confused you, then don't fret, love. Just post your thoughts wherever you like and the rest of us will just sort it out.

Finally, the real purpose of this post is to formally announce our second selection: Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo, as chosen by Steve Edgehouse. It is far shorter than our previous read, so I'm hoping this means we can get more people on board and ready to discuss come our February 1st deadline.

So, get your copy, grab your highlighters and let's get reading. I'll meet you back here on February 1st, but until then here's the Metallica video Trumbo's novel inspired. If it's anything like the video, then I'm sure this book will be a heartwarming, comedic love story of epic proportions:
